The 7 times table
The 7 times table is 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63, 70, 77, 84. It may also be called the seven times table or 7x table. Use the facts and table-specific method below when recall gets stuck. The aim is automatic recall, without counting through the sequence.

A useful method for the 7 times table
There is no single shortcut for every fact. Split seven groups into five groups and two groups. For 7 x 8, calculate 5 x 8 + 2 x 8, which is 40 + 16 = 56.
Use this method as a support when recall pauses. It helps the child rebuild the answer accurately, but the long-term goal is still direct recall. Revisit the fact later in a different order so it is learned independently of the list around it.

Prioritise 6 x 7 = 42 and 7 x 8 = 56. Also practise 7 x 6 and 8 x 7 so the child sees that each reversed pair has the same product.
Once the 2s, 5s and 10s are secure and commutativity is understood, the number of genuinely unknown facts is much smaller than a 12 by 12 grid first suggests. Every fact learned also secures its reversed partner.
How it is taught in school
Children may meet this table through equal groups, arrays, repeated addition, number lines, bar models and known-fact strategies. Ask the child to explain the method used in class and follow the same language at home where possible.
Other methods can reach the same correct answer. The priority is not to replace the teacher's approach with a competing shortcut, but to connect understanding to accurate recall. Mix the questions instead of always beginning at 1 x 7, and stop before practice becomes tiring.
